Welcome!

This is a Thunderbird add-on that may be used to generate Spam Complaints for all of your "Junk" mail. Spam Complaints assist system administrators and Internet Service Providers in identifying users and viruses that abuse their email service by sending out bulk unsolicited advertisements.

Using Thunderbird you can access your mail from most mail servers including a free GMail account. With the addition of a plug-in called WebMail, you can access your SPAM from Yahoo, Hotmail, Lycos, mail.com, Libero, and AOL.

When using the program, expect lots of responses. Responses may be directed to another email account, or a mail filter can file those away from your inbox. Many responses are automated confirmations of your complaint, personal responses from system administrators, and delivery failure notices. Responses indicate that users have been warned, temporarily disconnected, a virus has been identified, a poorly configured mail server has been fixed, a compromised service has been disabled, etc... Here are some examples of Resolved Complaints.

This is a Java Graphical User Interface (GUI).

Download / Install

How to Install in Thunderbird

  1. Use this Download link (scroll down) to get the latest version from Source Forge. Click on the latest spam_complaint-(version).xpi file and save it on your computer.

The Firefox browser may incorrectly assume this is a Firefox plug-in. After clicking on the spam_complaint-(version).xpi file, a new dialog appears prompting you to install a Firefox add-on; cancel the dialog. You'll see a "direct link" on the web page now. Right-click on the "direct link" and select "save-as" then save the file.

  2. In Mozilla Thunderbird under the Tools menu, you will see either "Extensions" or "Add-ons." Select that option..
  3. Click the Install button, and then locate and open the .xpi file you downloaded. Click on "Install." Restart Thunderbird to complete the installation.
  4. You can delete the spam_complaint-(version).xpi file.
